Don’t Be a Dead Sect

Revive yourself, your faith community, or your organization by listening for the call to work for compassion and justice in the world.

This past weekend my family stayed at a now-little-used Methodist church camp in the Northlands of Aotearoa (New Zealand). It was a beautiful spot near the ocean with perfect opportunities for stargazing at night. But, the cobwebs in the camp bunk house told a certain story. This place had been forgotten. The people responsible for it had lost track of their reason for being. They offered us hospitality when we asked, but their missional use of the space as a way to make goodness in the world needed some revival.

Having the form of a church (or community organization) without the spirit leads us to exists as dead sects. To counter this tendency we must stay wide awake to the needs of the world, the opportunities to act for justice, and our ongoing reason for being - the blessing of others.

Pick up your copy of MMXVII and share the link with your social circles at: https://carlthomasgladstone.com/store/mmxvii-a-benefit-for-ilj-michigan This is a benefit album for Immigration Law & Justice of Michigan and the songs on it contain calls to remember who we are, rebel against the divisive binaries the world says are important and always stay active offering compassion and justice to the most vulnerable around us.

Thanks.
